ParkSafety.org News Updates:

January City of Aliso Viejo joins Eco-Stride to host the 2011 Sustainability Forum.
ParkSafety.org will attend the 2011 Sustainability Forum hosted by Eco-Stride and The City of Aliso Viejo on March 31, 2011 at the Aliso Viejo Conference Center. 

December ParkSafety.org Executive Director interviewed by KOCE PBS about Sustainability. 
Ross Chun, Executive Director of ParkSafety.org, was interviewed by PBS affiliate KOCE on Aliso Viejo's Green City Initiative. Mr. Chun walked the parks with television reporter David Nazar and discussed the green practices in Aliso Viejo's parks. 


November -  The City of Aliso Viejo hosts its first Green City Workshop, and ParkSafety.org was there.
The Aliso Viejo Conference Center was the site of the first Aliso Viejo Green City Workshop, and Planning Director Albert Armejo presented many aspects of the City's program, including energy conservation and water use reduction programs that will save the city money, and preserve natural resource. 


May - Mission Landscape is awarded recognition for its sustainable practices in the City of Aliso Viejo.
Grand Park in Aliso Viejo is the site of an organic fertilizer test program, initiated by Mission Landscape to eliminate harmful chemical run-off into storm drains and the nearby creek and coastal waters.  

May City of Aliso Viejo's Aquatic Center opens for the summer season TODAY!
For the first time, seasonal passes are available, and the venue will host a variety of activities and events throughout the summer months. 

April Aliso Viejo Community Association hosts Arbor Day event. 
Sponsors like Mission Landscape, O'Connell Landscape, ValleyCrest and AVCA sponsored the Arbor Day event, inviting the community, boy scouts, and local business to participate in the planting of a new star pine in Grand Park. 

January City of Aliso Viejo's New Mayor Announces a Focus on Sustainability
Aliso Viejo is looking into, among other things, solar power for its public buildings. Newly elected Mayor, Phil Tsunoda spoke about the the city's plans to investigate alternative energy sources in 2010 at the first City Council meeting of 2010.

September ParkSafety.org works with The Laguna Canyon Foundation for Creek Clean-Up Day
Volunteers from ParkSafety.org helped on September 19th to clean-up the creek and support Coastal Clean-up efforts. 

June 22nd - Grand Slam for Aliso Viejo Girls Softball! Three Aliso Viejo Girls Softball (AVGS) All-Star teams qualified for the So Cal State Championship Tournament (10U, 12U, and 14U), and one for the Celebration of Champions Tournament (8U).  The league played host to forty-two recreational softball teams from 13 Southern California cities from Redondo Beach to San Clemente. 

June 5th - ParkSafety.org launches its Student Lunch Fund, providing the first contribution to Canyon Vista Elementary School in Aliso Viejo, CA. Local businesses are encouraged to support this effort, and provide lunches to students who are missing this important meal because of financial circumstances.

April 4th - The Aliso Viejo Community Association will host its annual Spring Celebration in Grand Park on Saturday, April 4th starting at 9:00 AM.

March 2nd - ParkSafety.org Executive Director Ross Chun appointed to the National Recreation and Park Association Advisory Council on GIS Standards. This national organization is working to standardize the data used by governmental entities and private park users to identify park locations, and the amenities they offer. January 1st - Several Aliso Viejo Residents visit ParkSafety.org and blog in support of a dog park within the city.

November 5th - The City of Aliso Viejo plans to consider partnering with The Aliso Viejo Community Association to install permanent restrooms at Woodfield Park. This will benefit all park users.

October 14th - ParkSafety.org is recognized in the Orange County Register for it's participation in the Aliso and Wood Canyons Creek Clean-Up effort. Read more about our community service programs online.

September 20th - Aliso Viejo Girl Scout Troop 66 helps ParkSafety.org and the Savannah's Organic Ranch Foundation with Coastal Clean-Up Day!

August 13th - ParkSafety.org joins Savannah's Organic Ranch Foundation at the Aliso Canyon Community Park site for Coastal Clean-up Day.

 July 17th - Karl Warkomski, Executive Director of the Laguna Canyon Foundation invites ParkSafety.org to participate in the Coastal Clean-up Day!

July 16th - Aliso Viejo will have deputies on bicycles patrolling trails, bike paths and highly concentrated areas not easily accessible by vehicles thanks to resident Jim Wisniewski.

Jim recently donated four 2008 terrain bicycles to the Orange County Sheriff’s Advisory Council.

The generous donation was driven by Jim’s desire to see a bicycle team in town to complement Aliso Viejo Police Services’ patrol operations. The idea gained momentum in January when Jim – an avid bicycle racer – met with Lt. Rich Paddock and Sgt. DJ Haldeman about the program and donating the four bicycles, which cost more than $3,000.

June 24th - ParkSafety.org welcomes the first Student Summer Program participant from Boy Scout Troop 702!

June 4th - Canyon Vista Elementary School encourages students to participate in Summer Student Program.

May 29th - Oak Grove Elementary School Press Release encourages students to participate in Summer Student Program.

May 20th - Students from Don Juan Avila Elementary and Middle School, Oak Grove Elementary School and Aliso Niguel High School kick off registration for Summer Student Program.

May 16th - Don Juan Avila Middle School plans to participate in Summer Student Program.

May 9th - City of Aliso Viejo to recognize Summer Student Program with Certificate of Achievement.
